Rugby hosts District 3 Tractor Driving

The Rugby FFA hosted the District 3 tractor driving event today at the Rugby Livestock Sales Barn parking lot. Devin Volk, Cade Heilman, Alex Hoffert, and Isaac Volk competed for Rugby and all advanced to the state competition next week in Minot. Members from Rolla, Bottineau, Leeds, and Harvey were also competing in the event. Special thanks goes out to Gooseneck Implement of Rugby for supplying the tractor and trailer, and Rugby Livestock for letting us use their parking lot to host the event.

Rugby FFA Competes at the State Convention

39 Rugby FFA members traveled to Fargo to compete at the 2015 North Dakota State FFA Convention. Members competed in Dairy Foods, Dairy Evaluation, Food Science, Floriculture, Small Animal Care, Nursery/Landscape, Horse Evaluation, Quiz Bowl, Creed Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, Meats Evaluation, Ag Mechanics, and Officer Book Evaluation. Students were also recognized for their hard work with receiving both Proficiency Awards, and the North Dakota State Degree. The trip was highlighted with Horse Evaluation, and Meats Evaluation winning State Titles, Devin Volk being named Star in Ag Placement, and Hunter Allickson and MyKell Bosch winning State in their Proficiency areas.

Rugby FFA Holds 81st Annual Banquet

The Rugby FFA held their 81st annual banquet on Thursday April 2nd. The banquet highlighted the accomplishments of the FFA members throughout the 2014-15 school year, unveiled scholarship recipients, honored Sheila Braaten, Terry Jelsing, Mike Heidlebaugh, and Phil Volk as Honorary Chapter Members, inducted Tom Teigen into the Rugby FFA Hall of Fame, and recognized Rick Vannett for his years of service as he is retiring at the conclusion of this school year. The guest speaker of the evening was Shaun Sipma who is a former KX News anchor and reporter. Special guests Keylee Odden, former Rugby FFA President, and current State Sentinel, and Aaron Anderson, former Rugby FFA President, State Officer, and current State FFA Advisor were also in attendance. Thank you to all that attended and to those individuals and companies who sponsored awards!

Rugby FFA competes at the Winter State CDE in Minot

The Rugby FFA Ag Sales, General Livestock Judging, and Agronomy teams competed all Winter long to prepare for the State competition on Monday March 23rd. The teams consisted of: Josh Pfeifer, McKenzie Johnson, and Kaycee Mahle (Agronomy), Devin Volk, Kylie Scherr, Madison Schmaltz, Abby Volk, and Katherine Filler (General Livestock), and MyKell Bosch, and Sierra Jundt (Ag Sales). The General Livestock team took 10th place, the Agronomy team took 15th place, and the Ag Sales team was a non-placing team with Sierra Jundt receiving a Bronze rating. Congrats to the teams on their successful Winter season, and thank you for your hard work and determination!

Rugby FFA @ Naopleon February 7th

The Rugby FFA had a good showing at the Napoleon Competition on Saturday February 7th. The Agronomy team consisting of Josh Pfeifer, McKenzie Johnson, Dustin Atkinson, and Mariah Pfeifer finished as a Bronze team and Josh was the highest individual on the team placing in the top 30 individuals. There were 25 different teams and 90 individuals competing. The Livestock team split up into Team 1 consisting of Devin Volk, Maddie Schmaltz, and Kylie Scherr, and Team 2 consisting of Abby Volk, Katherine Filler, and Alex Hoffert. Team 1 placed 4th and received a Gold ranking and Team 2 placed 8th and received a Silver ranking. Individually there were four Gold judgers (Abby Volk, Maddie Schmaltz, Devin Volk, and Kylie Scherr) with two finishing in the top 10 (Abby 5th and Maddie 8th). There were 17 teams competing in the Livestock competition.

The judgers head down to NDSU Thursday after school for the “Little I” competition held on Friday and will compete in Kindred on Saturday morning. The teams going down there are the Agronomy, Ag Sales, Livestock, and Small Animal Care teams.

Rugby Ag Show Friday February 6th

Come check out the Rugby FFA Booth at the Rugby Ag show in the Amory! We will be selling “guess the weight” tickets for a hog that Greg Mack will have at the show. FFA members will be going around selling these tickets. The drawing winner will take home half of the money and the Rugby FFA will receive the remaining half of the proceeds.
